a CELEBRATION OF LIFE
To be trusted to capture life’s most essential moments, experiences of birth and death, is a true privilege. This responsibility comes with the weight of significance and emotion, underscoring the importance of these extraordinary moments.
MATERNITY & BIRTH
Each birth story is a unique tapestry, intricately woven with hope, raw emotion, and the boundless promise of tomorrow. It’s an extraordinary, fleeting dance of emotions — excitement, exhaustion, joy, and vulnerability — unfolding in moments that feel both eternal and instantaneous. As parents navigate the delicate balance of welcoming new life, these moments often blur in the whirlwind of their most important role.
As a photographer, I capture the quiet connections, the tender exchanges, and the profound love that defines this chapter of a family’s journey—becoming the memory when your heart is focused on holding the world in your arms.
POSTMORTEM PHOTOGRAPHY
To me, postmortem photography is not about loss, it is about connection: a final act of love and the preservation of a family’s story. I think as a culture we’ve lost our connection to death. Once a normal part of American culture, postmortem photography is no longer seen as a vital remembrance and such portraits all but stopped in the early 20th century. But they were once prized family possessions and often the only visual remembrance of the deceased, a means for the middle class to memorialize their loved ones. When my stepmother passed, these images helped in the grieving process and provided a means of solace, a way to celebrate life and connection. I see my role as not just a photographer, but as a partner in this tender journey, creating a remembrance that honours the beauty of life, even in its final moments.
